Prospect preview: Hader looks for another strong start

April 11th, 2017

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: (Dodgers' No. 1), Oklahoma City at Nashville (7:35 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
The Minor League season may be less than a week old, but Bellinger is already making a case for an early-season callup. MLBPipeline.com's No. 11 overall prospect went 3-for-4 on Monday to improve his average to .476 (10-for-21) through five games for Oklahoma City. Four of those hits have gone for extra bases, including his first home run of the season, and he's already tallied five RBIs.

Pitcher to watch: (Brewers' No. 3), Colorado Springs at Memphis (8:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Hader issued five walks in his season debut for the Sky Sox, but was still plenty effective, allowing one hit and striking out six over five scoreless innings. Ranked No. 36 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, Hader, 23, went 1-7 with a 5.22 ERA in 14 Triple-A starts in 2016, albeit with 88 strikeouts in 69 innings.

Duel of the day: (A's No. 3) vs. (Cardinals' No. 8), Midland vs. Springfield (7:30 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Holmes, No. 82 on the Top 100, will be making his second start for Double-A Midland. In his season debut, the 21-year-old right-hander yielded two earned runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings, striking out four and walking one.

Flaherty, on the other hand, was stellar in his debut for Double-A Springfield. The 2014 first-rounder scattered three hits over 6 2/3 scoreless frames, with six strikeouts and one walk, to lead the Cardinals past Frisco on Opening Day.
