ARLINGTON -- Entering Tuesday’s series opener against the Angels, the Rangers were 9-27 when allowing one or more runs in the first inning.
So though it was only two runs, things could have looked dire when ace Jacob deGrom, who carries a 9.00 first-inning ERA this season, had the Rangers playing from behind from the start.
But Texas powered back to an 8-3 victory thanks to some late offensive heroics.
The Rangers and Angels were locked into a 2-2 stalemate for much of the evening and then again in a 3-3 tie for an inning after Justin Foscue collected his first career pinch-hit homer in the bottom of the seventh.
Ezequiel "The Solution" Duran collected the go-ahead knock in the bottom of the eighth before the Rangers blew it open with a five-run frame, during which they sent 10 batters to the plate.
