International superstar. Four-time MVP. Two-time World Series champion. And now … children’s book author?

That’s right: Dodgers two-way sensation is trying something new this offseason -- with a little help from his dog, Decoy.

On Tuesday, Ohtani’s first book, “Decoy Saves Opening Day,” will be published by HarperCollins. In the illustrated children’s book, Decoy (MLB’s “Most Valuable Dog”) is tasked with throwing out the first pitch to his owner Ohtani on Opening Day, but he forgot his lucky baseball at home and must race to fetch it in time for the big throw.

Co-authored by Michael Blank and illustrated by Fanny Liem, the 32-page book will help promote Ohtani’s work with animal rescue organizations.

Ohtani isn’t the first Major Leaguer to enter the world of children’s books: First baseman Josh Bell and pitcher Brent Suter are among those who have become published authors. Now, MLB’s brightest star is taking on the challenge. And if we know anything about Ohtani, there’s not much he can’t handle.
