WHAT: The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF), in partnership with Science of Sport, will host its STEM Field Day on Monday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rachel Robinson Field, Jackie Robinson Stadium, and Field 42 (Dodgers Dreamfields Nos. 52-54) at Gonzales Park in Compton. The multi-field development honors the legacy of baseball legend Jackie Robinson and his family. The event, sponsored by ARCO, LADWP, and SoCal Gas, will welcome over 500 Dodgers Dreamteam participants and students from the Los Angeles, Pasadena, Hawthorne, and Inglewood Unified School Districts who have been learning LADF’s Science of Baseball curriculum, taught by teachers who have completed the required teacher training to effectively implement it in their classrooms.
During the field trip, students will demonstrate real-world applications of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts through interactive, hands-on activities that show how STEM is used in baseball and softball. Participants will rotate through a series of stations that allow for immersive learning, collaboration, and practical problem-solving. Participants will also engage with an interactive STEM wall and utilize the Science of Baseball outdoor classroom, both unique to Gonzales Park.
Since 2018, LADF has trained over 500 teachers and positively impacted over 100,000 youth through its Science of Baseball curriculum. This event serves as a platform to showcase the profound connections between STEM and baseball and softball. Members of the Los Angeles Dodgers Performance Science team have supported LADF by auditing the curriculum and, alongside teachers, will lead students through each station.

WHY: LADF’s Science of Baseball curriculum, aligned with Next Generation Science Standards, was crafted in collaboration with Science of Sport to cultivate a passion for STEM subjects among young minds. Each year, hundreds of teachers are trained and receive complimentary STEM classroom kits and student workbooks to effectively integrate these lessons into their classrooms. The Science of Baseball curriculum comes to life through STEM Field Days, where students engage in hands-on learning experiences. They delve into topics like geometry by calculating the area of their strike zone, explore sustainability by studying the waste accrued at a baseball field, and learn wind resistance by running the bases. To further enhance the STEM learning experience, LADF collaborates with the Dodgers Performance Science team to expose students to STEM career opportunities in sports and the practical applications of the Science of Baseball curriculum and integrates it across Dodgers Dreamteam and brings it to life on Dodgers Dreamfields through outdoor classrooms featuring the curriculum.
