Sunday's best: Smith, Nimmo combine for 8 hits

Dominic Smith and led Triple-A Las Vegas to a 7-5 win over El Paso as the duo of Mets' prospects combined to go 8-for-10 with four RBIs on Sunday.
Smith, the No. 56 overall prospect (Mets' No. 2), has been in a nice rhythm offensively and continued that trend with a 4-for-5 performance, his third straight multihit game.
Smith put the 51s on the board early with RBIs singles in both the first and third innings. The 21-year-old later provided an insurance run with a base hit in the eighth as he finished the day with three RBIs. Smith, who is hitting .329 this season, has driven in eight over the past three games, bringing his total to 35 through 51 games.
Nimmo, the Mets' No. 7 prospect, also got off to a fast start on the afternoon as he led off the game with a double and scored on Smith's single. The double was one of three for Nimmo, who finished 4-for-5 with an RBI. Both the four hits and trio of doubles marked season highs.

Other top prospect performances from Sunday's action:
• No. 6 overall prospect Austin Meadows (Pirates' No. 1) notched his fourth straight multihit game, going 3-for-4 with two doubles for Triple-A Indianapolis. Meadows has two or more hits in six of his past eight games and is hitting .262 after getting off to a rough start.

• No. 11 overall prospect Brendan Rodgers (Rockies' No. 1) extended his hitting streak to eight games by going 3-for-4 with Class A Advanced Lancaster. Not only has Rodgers hit in eight straight, but he has two or more hits in five straight. The shortstop also scored the tying run in the bottom of the 11th in Lancaster's walk-off win.
• No. 71 overall prospect (Yankees' No. 6) and (Yankees' No. 9) led Double-A Trenton to 6-2 win over Portland. Sheffield fired 70 of his 102 pitches for strikes and surrendered just three hits and one unearned run over 6 2/3 innings. Meanwhile, Andujar extended his hitting streak to seven games with a 3-for-4 day that included a double and his fifth homer of the season.

• No. 72 overall prospect (Braves' No. 5) pitched Triple-A Gwinnett to a win over Syracuse with five innings of one-run ball. Newcomb gave up three hits and struck out nine in the outing and has now given up one earned run or fewer in six of his 10 starts this season.
• Perhaps Angels' No. 14 prospect Michael Hermosillo is turning a corner. Hermosillo has gotten off to a slow start this season, but has hits in three of his past four games after going 3-for-4 with two double and a season-high three RBIs for Double-A Mobile. Hermosillo also reached via a walk and scored a pair of runs in win over Birmingham.

• Nick Neidert (Mariners' No. 3) fired six no-hit innings for Class A Advanced Modesto, but was stuck with a no-decision as his team lost both the no-hitter and the game in the 10th. The 20-year-old righty threw 55 of his 83 pitches for strikes, walked one and struck out nine.

• Tyler Marlette (Mariners' No. 23) drove in five runs for the second time this season with Double-A Arkansas. All five of Marlette's RBIs came in the Travelers' 13-run sixth inning as Marlette came through with an RBI double and a grand slam. Marlette finished 2-for-5 and has driven in eight over the past two games.

Phillies' No. 4 prospect just keeps hitting home runs. Williams homered twice as part of a 2-for-5, four-RBI game for Triple-A Lehigh Valley and has gone deep in three straight games. He has homered in seven of his past 11 games.

• Franklyn Kilome (Phillies' No. 5) extended his scoreless streak to 10 innings with seven strong frames for Class A Advanced Clearwater. Kilome struck out six in the outing and didn't walk a batter, throwing 54 of his 77 pitches for strikes.
Rays' No. 30 prospect Ryan Boldt was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and reached base in all four plate appearances for Class A Advanced Charlotte. Boldt, who has strung together three straight multihit games, also hit his second homer and stole his eighth base.
• Colton Welker (Rockies' No. 12) put together his second four-hit game of the season for Class A Asheville. Welker finished 4-for-5 with two RBIs, has hits in five straight and in 14 of his past 15 contests. Over that 15-game span the 19-year-old has boosted his average from an even .300 to a blistering .352.
• Alec Hansen (White Sox No. 10) struck out a career-high 15 for Class A Kannapolis. The righty struck out the side in the third and fanned at least two in six of the seven innings he pitched. Hansen fired 76 of his 99 pitches for strikes, didn't walk a batter and gave up one run on five hits.
