BALTIMORE -- Two more new coaches will be joining the Orioles’ staff for the 2026 season, one of whom has been a prominent name in baseball for nearly three decades.
Baltimore is set to hire Miguel Cairo as Major League infield coach, as well as Joe Singley as field coordinator/Major League catching coach, according to a source. The club has not confirmed or announced the moves.
With first-year manager Craig Albernaz now at the helm, the O’s staff is taking shape, as sources previously told MLB.com that Donnie Ecker will be the bench coach, Dustin Lind will be the hitting coach, Jason Bourgeois will be the first-base coach and Drew French, Buck Britton, Mitch Plassmeyer and Ryan Klimek will each be returning, though titles for those four have not yet been reported.
Cairo was most recently the Nationals’ interim manager, following Washington’s dismissal of Dave Martinez on July 6. The 51-year-old Venezuelan led the Nats to a 29-43 record the rest of the way.
After a 17-year MLB playing career as an infielder, Cairo worked in the Reds’ front office in various roles from 2013-17. He then worked in player development and served as a Minor League infield coordinator with the Yankees from 2018-20.
Cairo was also the White Sox bench coach from 2021-22 -- including leading the team to an 18-16 record while serving as interim manager when Tony La Russa stepped away due to health issues in ‘22 -- and he then worked as the Mets’ Minor League field coordinator in ‘23.
The Orioles’ coaching staff will be filled with plenty of younger members, so Cairo’s veteran voice could be a strong addition to the group.
Singley, 28, spent the 2025 season as the Marlins’ catching coach, assistant catching director and bullpen catcher. He was previously with the Reds as bullpen catcher (‘23 and ‘24) and catching intern (‘22).
A native of Wilmington, Del., Singley played baseball at Coastal Carolina University and then began his coaching career at the school.
