Four months ago, Devin Fitz-Gerald was a member of the Rangers organization, a highly regarded fifth-round pick from the 2024 Draft.
Fast-forward to Tuesday night and the 20-year-old is arguably the fastest-rising star in the Nationals’ system, adding his first multihomer performance as a pro to his laundry list of achievements at the start of 2026.
The Nationals’ No. 10 prospect racked up three hits for the third time in his past six contests -- a span in which he has gone deep five times -- during High-A Wilmington’s 12-9 loss to Winston-Salem at Truist Stadium.
Fitz-Gerald crushed a leadoff homer as a right-handed hitter to straightaway center field in the first inning after working the count into his favor against southpaw Justin Sinibaldi (White Sox). The Florida native bookended his day by going deep in his final at-bat from the left side of the dish, driving righty Aric McAtee's hanging breaking ball out the opposite way.
Acquired in late January as part of the five-player return from Texas that sent left-hander MacKenzie Gore in the other direction, Fitz-Gerald has hit from literal Day 1 with the Blue Rocks, having notched three hits on Opening Day. He hasn’t slowed down from there.

Following his two-homer performance, Fitz-Gerald ranks fourth in the High-A South Atlantic League in OPS (1.101) and total bases (76), and is fifth in both hits (38) and average (.325). His eight roundtrippers are tied for most in the Nationals’ system alongside Wilmington teammate Elijah Green.

Fitz-Gerald has also proven adept at three different spots across the infield – second base, third base and shortstop, logging between 70 and 103 innings at each this year.
“His baseball IQ is through the roof, and he carries himself like a true pro,” Wilmington manager Ted Tom recently said of Fitz-Gerald. “He doesn't really say much but leads by example. … He knows what winning looks like at a really high level. He expects to win, and he expects to win in everything he does.”
It has been a while since Wilmington has had a player in its everyday lineup who has generated this level of buzz. Right-handers Travis Sykora (WSH No. 2/MLB No. 41) and Jarlin Susana (WSH No. 4/MLB No. 63) lit up radar guns and stacked strikeouts during their Blue Rocks tenure, but there hasn’t been an offensive force as exciting as Fitz-Gerald since James Wood was ripping line drives in 2023. Just over 13 months after his last game in Delaware, Wood was in The Show.
