The Yankees have finished better than .500 in each of the past 30 seasons and made the playoffs in six straight. But for a franchise that measures itself by championships, they haven't won or even played in a World Series since 2009.

In perpetual win-now mode, New York usually relies on its farm system for trade fodder and 2022 was no exception. The Yankees gave up eight prospects -- including seven pitchers, most notably Ken Waldichuk and Hayden Wesneski -- in midseason deals for Andrew Benintendi, Scott Effross, Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino. The club also witnessed the arrival of what should be a wave of offensive talent that should remake the big league lineup in the next couple of seasons.

Oswaldo Cabrera started in left field and at shortstop during the playoffs and should settle into a utility role, while Oswald Peraza made the American League Championship Series roster and is the favorite to win the shortstop job this year at age 22. Top prospect Anthony Volpe should join the infield at some point in 2023, while mega-hyped Jasson Domínguez should crash the outfield next season. New York has spent its last four first-round choices on offensive-minded players, and catcher Austin Wells (2020), shortstop Trey Sweeney (2021) and outfielder Spencer Jones (2022) could team with Volpe (2019) to form nearly half the lineup of the future.
