When Jarred Cosart starts for the Padres on Monday night against the Brewers at Petco Park, he will become the 13th starting pitcher employed by San Diego this season.
Overall, Cosart will become the 26th pitcher and the 46th player used by the Padres after 106 games.
The Padres' record for most players used in a season is 59 in 2002 and '08. The franchise record for the most pitchers used in a season is 37 in '02 -- which is also the National League record for most pitchers used in a season.
Four of the 13 starting pitchers used by the Padres this season have been traded -- Andrew Cashner, James Shields, Drew Pomeranz and Colin Rea. Four others are on the disabled list -- Opening Day starter Tyson Ross (right shoulder and left ankle), Robbie Erlin (Tommy John surgery), Erik Johnson (right elbow) and César Vargas (flexor tendon strain).

• According to Padres manager Andy Green, shortstop José Rondón will be starting the majority of games "as long as he's up here with the Padres." Rondon was promoted from Double-A San Antonio on Friday to take Yangervis Solarte's spot on the 25-man roster while the third baseman is away on family leave. Alexei Ramirez, 34, has started 98 of San Diego's 105 games at short. Rondon has started two straight, and he figures to return to San Antonio when Solarte rejoins the Padres.
• Alexi Amarista was 2-for-4 on Sunday, and he was 6-for-9 in three games against the Reds. He subbed for Alex Dickerson, who might be out of the lineup another couple of days. Dickerson suffered a bruised right hip in a collision with center fielder Travis Jankowski on Friday night.
• Second baseman Ryan Schimpf finished July hitting .269 (21-for-78) with five doubles, a triple and nine home runs for 17 RBIs. The home runs were the most ever by a Padres rookie in any calendar month, although his last home run of the month came on July 24.
• First baseman Wil Myers stole two bases on Sunday, including the first steal of home in his career. It marked the third time in his career that Myers stole two bases in the same game. He now has 19 steals on the season.
