The Orioles and TREY MANCINI today announced he will sign a one-day contract with Baltimore and retire as an Oriole on Saturday, September 19, when the club hosts the Milwaukee Brewers at 4:05 p.m. ET. Fans are invited to Oriole Park at Camden Yards to enjoy this momentous occasion as Mancini is honored in a slate of pregame celebrations.
Mancini, who was drafted in the eighth round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Notre Dame (IN), spent the first six years of his career from 2016-21 and part of 2022 with the Orioles before being traded to the Houston Astros and winning the World Series in 2022. He was with the Chicago Cubs for part of the 2023 season before finishing the year in the minors with the Cincinnati Reds. After not playing in 2024, he spent 2025 in the minor leagues with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Earlier this year, Mancini began the season in the minors with the Los Angeles Angels and was called up to the major leagues on June 8, marking his first MLB game in 1,043 days. He appeared in five games for the Angels before officially announcing his retirement on August 18.
Mancini was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer in 2020, discovered after undergoing routine blood work as part of his yearly physical at Spring Training. He missed the entire season while undergoing treatment. His cancer went into remission later that year, allowing him to return to the Orioles and earn American League Comeback Player of the Year honors in 2021. In support of his battle in 2020, the Orioles produced “F16HT” t-shirts to benefit the Colorectal Cancer Alliance Patient and Family Support Services, with proceeds exceeding $80,000.
As an homage to his courageous battle and comeback, fans can purchase a special ticket package for the September 19 game that includes a game ticket and a limited-edition hat with the iconic “F16HT” logo. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Trey Mancini Foundation, which works to support those who are facing food insecurity, illness, and hardships. The F16HT sign in the home dugout tunnel, which has remained up for every season since 2020, will be relocated within the Club Level archives at Camden Yards. A new, permanent sign will be unveiled in the dugout during a pregame ceremony. As part of the pregame festivities, Mancini and the Orioles will be joined by former teammates, coaches, staff members, medical professionals, and others who played an impactful role in Mancini’s storied life. Mancini will also throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
As part of Fan Appreciation Weekend, Mancini will also participate in a pregame kids-only autograph session at the ADA platform at the top of section 16. The autograph session is limited to kids 12 and under. Each participant will receive one autograph with no personalization or photos permitted. A limited number of autographs will be available on a first come, first served basis. Fans will also be randomly selected to participate in the on-field pregame ceremony.
