LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers' losing skid reached a season-high eight games on Friday night, as the Rockies used a Carlos Gonzalez homer and a four-run fifth inning to hand them a 5-4 setback at Dodger Stadium.
"Coming off yesterday, an emotional win, we were able to stay up," Rockies manager Bud Black said, referring to Colorado's 9-1 win in the series opener. "A lot of times after an emotional win, there can be a letdown. And a lot of times, it can be a momentum builder. That's why we play. I say that all the time, but it's so true in our game."
With the win, the Rockies maintained their lead for the second National League Wild Card spot, three games ahead of the Brewers and Cardinals. The Dodgers still hold a double-digit lead in the NL West, 10 games over the D-backs, but they have lost 13 of their last 14 and eight straight for the first time since May 2013.

Yu Darvish gave up a solo homer to Gonzalez in the first, but the Dodgers picked him up with a four-spot in the bottom of the inning. Justin Turner started the rally with a two-run homer, and Austin Barnes capped it off with a two-run single.
"I thought that the first inning, you saw the fight," manager Dave Roberts said. "Big home run. That two-out hit by Austin was huge. … I think if you look at tonight, there were a couple of opportunities we didn't capitalize on. So if you're looking at a team that's struggling offensively, you gotta find a way to execute and tack on a point when you have a chance."

Darvish cruised through the next three innings, but he gave up consecutive doubles to Raimel Tapia, Charlie Blackmon and DJ LeMahieu in the fifth and was pulled with one out as the Dodgers watched a 4-1 lead flip to a 5-4 deficit.
"You look at that [fifth] inning," Roberts said, "I thought the walk to [Jonathan] Lucroy was a bad walk, but outside of that, the Blackmon ball was the only one hit hard. It's just one of those things. LeMahieu got around a breaking ball that turned into a double. At that point in time, 90 pitches, I felt that we needed to go the 'pen. But I think that Yu should be encouraged after this one."
The Rockies' rally put a damper on a night Darvish became the fastest player in MLB history to reach 1,000 career strikeouts, fanning six in his 128th game, with the record-setter coming in his 813th inning.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Getting some help: The Rockies' fifth-inning outburst got a little help from the Dodgers. Tapia lofted a single into shallow center, where Joc Pederson attempted a sliding grab. When he couldn't come up with the catch, two runs came home to cut the lead to 4-3.
"I faced [Darvish] in Spring Training, so there's a little history there," Tapia said. "Very small, but I had seen him before and I was just ready to get a pitch in my zone and put a good swing on it."

Double trouble: After Blackmon knotted things up at 4-4 with an RBI double, LeMahieu capped off the rally. LeMahieu threaded a double down the left-field line that sneaked past Turner at third, allowing Blackmon to score the go-ahead run. The Rockies tied a franchise record with four doubles in the inning. It's the third time they've accomplished the feat. 
"We've just grinded and grinded out at-bats," said Alexi Amarista through a team translator. Amarista collected the first double of the inning. "Hitting is contagious, like anything else in life. We've been doing that the last few days. Our approach has been solid."

Rockies:Chad Bettis will make his sixth start since returning from his battle with testicular cancer, with first pitch at Dodger Stadium set for 7:10 p.m. MT on Saturday. After two solid starts to open his season, Bettis is 0-2 with a 7.63 ERA over his last three outings.
Dodgers: The Dodgers will counter with Alex Wood, who makes his second start since coming off the disabled list. Wood is 4-2 with a 5.02 ERA in eight career starts vs. the Rockies. First pitch Saturday is slated for 6:10 p.m. PT.
