Royals-Guardians rained out Wednesday; makeup Aug. 26 as split DH

June 5th, 2024

CLEVELAND -- With storms forecasted throughout the Cleveland area on Wednesday night, the second game of the Guardians-Royals series at Progressive Field was postponed.

It will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Aug. 26, when the Royals return to Cleveland for the second time this season.

Fans holding tickets to Wednesday’s contest can use their exact same ticket to enter the 1:10 p.m. ET (12:10 CT) game on Aug. 26 and do not have to exchange. They will not be allowed to attend the night game -- the originally scheduled game on Aug. 26 beginning at 6:40 p.m. (5:40 CT) -- unless they hold a ticket for that game as well. If fans are unable to attend the makeup game on Aug. 26, they will be able to make an exchange.

For more information, please refer to the Guardians' rainout policy.

The Royals will push starter back one more day and have him start the series finale on Thursday afternoon. Singer hasn’t started since May 25 after missing his last start with an illness. The righty will be pitching Thursday on 11 days of rest.

Kansas City will look to even the series against Cleveland with Thursday’s matinee after losing their grip on a five-run lead Tuesday night. The Royals are winless in their last seven series at Progressive Field since they won three of four in September 2020. The club hasn’t won a season series against the Guardians since 2015, when the Royals went 10-9.

This year, these two teams are battling for the top of the American League Central, but the Guardians (40-20) are beginning to separate themselves with a five-game lead over the second-place Royals (36-26), and the Twins (33-27) not far behind either entering Wednesday night.
