CHICAGO -- During a recent interview, White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson was asked if hitting .300 was a sustainable goal for the entirety of his 2019 season? Anderson’s .337 average entered Tuesday’s action as No. 1 in the American League.
“What do you think?” Anderson responded with a wry smile.
When the reporter said it was possible for Anderson to accomplish, he quickly added “I think I can too.”
A similar answer would probably be provided by Anderson if he was asked about deserving 2019 AL All-Star recognition. Anderson is the White Sox representative at shortstop on the ballot for the 2019 All-Star Game presented by Mastercard released on Tuesday, and his confidence certainly is backed up by his results.
Along with the lofty average, Anderson ranks second in the AL with 13 stolen bases. He also has eight home runs, 25 RBIs and 28 runs scored.
But Anderson is not the lone White Sox on the ballot with All-Star credentials. Jose Abreu, who started at first base for the AL in 2018, has 13 home runs, 14 doubles and 42 RBIs. Yoan Moncada also has produced a solid start during his first year at third base for the White Sox, while catcher James McCann is hitting .322 with four homers and 12 RBIs.
Eloy Jimenez, Ryan Cordell and Leury Garcia represent the White Sox in the outfield on the ballot. Yonder Alonso is at designated hitter and Yolmer Sanchez is at second.
Fans may vote in "The Primary" at MLB.com and all 30 club sites, the MLB At Bat and MLB Ballpark apps up to five times in any 24-hour period.
