Yanks to determine next steps for Stanton (calf) ahead of Rangers opener

HOUSTON -- With missing his second consecutive game Sunday, manager Aaron Boone said the Yankees would probably decide Monday if the designated hitter will require a stint on the injured list.

Stanton left Friday night’s game at Daikin Park with right calf tightness, which he began feeling while jogging from first to second base on a walk to Jazz Chisholm Jr.

Asked before Sunday’s 7-4 loss to the Astros how long the Yankees would play a man short, Boone said: “Not too long. I would think we’ll have a decision ahead of tomorrow one way or the other.

“I know [Saturday] he felt like it was improved. I think he also feels like he got in front of it a little bit, so we’ll see how it unfolds.”

The Yankees, who are 5-1 so far on their nine-game road trip, begin a three-game series against the Rangers on Monday night.

Stanton, who missed 85 games a season ago, has played in 24 of the Yankees’ 28 games this year. He is slashing .256/.302/.422 with three home runs and 14 RBIs.
