CLEVELAND -- Last week, the Guardians humbled the Yankees by picking up a series win over the Bombers at Yankee Stadium.
But the Yankees got their revenge and then some this week by sweeping the Guardians in a three-game series at Progressive Field.
And what a dominant sweep it was.
After close wins in the first two games of the series, the Yankees picked up an 8-4 win in Wednesday’s series finale.
While the Guardians jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a leadoff home run from Angel Martínez off starter Carlos Rodón, the Yankees jumped in front just an inning later, thanks to a three-run second highlighted by a two-run triple from Jazz Chisholm Jr. to right field that would have been a home run in Yankee Stadium.
He came around to score a batter later on a fielding error from second baseman Travis Bazzana.
While the Guardians ended up tying the game in the fourth inning, the Yankees put the game away in the sixth, thanks to a three-run scoring barrage that was once again set up by a triple.
This time it was Trent Grisham, who lined a ball into the right-field corner that Martínez overran. He came around to score a batter later on a sacrifice fly to shallow left field from José Caballero that featured an assist from Chisholm, who was behind home plate directing Grisham where to slide.
The other two runs in the inning came on an Anthony Volpe double and a Paul Goldschmidt single.
That proved to be more than enough run support for Rodón, who went six innings and allowed three runs on four hits and three walks while also striking out seven.
