White Sox announce highlights for 2023 home opener

March 24th, 2023

CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox today announced highlights scheduled for the club’s home opener on Monday, April 3 at 3:10 p.m. vs. the San Francisco Giants.

All fans will receive a Magnetic Schedule, presented by BMO, and are encouraged to be in their seats at least 45 minutes prior to first pitch for the following pregame celebrations:

  • Ceremonial first pitch by White Sox great A.J. Pierzynski, 2005 World Series Champion and two-time MLB All-Star
  • Ford Drive Around introducing White Sox Manager Pedro Grifol and players as they arrive on the field in Ford Broncos and Mustangs
  • National Anthem performed by Grammy Award-winning artist Jon Secada
  • Flyover by two United States Navy P-8A Poseidon Aircrafts

Pierzynski, the co-host of “Foul Territory,” a digital show featuring a lineup of former players discussing baseball’s hottest topics, is donating $1 to Chicago White Sox Charities (CWSC) for every follower he adds to his Instagram (@aj_pierzynski_ft) and Twitter (@aj_pierzynskiFT) profiles. The fan-favorite White Sox ambassador will donate up to $25,000 to CWSC through April 3 in appreciation for the social media support.

Three-time Grammy Award-winning artist and acclaimed Latin American songwriter Jon Secada will perform the game’s National Anthem. With a career spanning more than three decades and 20 million albums sold, including hits in English and Spanish, Secada is recognized as one of the first bilingual artists to earn international crossover success with several top 20 Billboard songs released throughout the early 1990s. Acknowledged as Humanitarian of the Year in 2016 by The Muhammad Ali Foundation, Secada’s career skyrocketed in 1991, with the release of his self-titled debut album Jon Secada (SBK/EMI).

The White Sox will recognize Chicago-native Sergeant Allen James Lynch of the United States Army with the Hero of the Game recognition during the middle of the third inning. A 1970 Medal of Honor recipient for risking his life above and beyond the call of duty, Sgt. Lynch distinguished himself while serving as a radio telephone operator with Company D in the Vietnam War. His bravery while defending an isolated position and engaging with a numerically superior enemy force included a successful evacuation of three wounded comrades lying exposed to ongoing fire. There are currently only 65 living Medal of Honor recipients.

The home opener also features a Sox Split guaranteed jackpot starting at $50,000, presented by Wintrust and benefiting CWSC. Tickets are available now for Illinois residents at whitesox.com/soxsplit. Sales will conclude at the end of the seventh inning of the home opener, and the winning ticket will be displayed online and on Twitter at @soxcharities.
