Balanced schedule will see Padres play every American League team

August 24th, 2022

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres released their schedule for the 2023 regular season today featuring matchups against every American League team as part of Major League Baseball’s new balanced schedule. Beginning in 2023, teams will play at least one series against every team in the other league while playing five fewer games against divisional opponents resulting in 52 total games against NL West opponents (13 games against the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks).

The Padres will kick off the season at home with a four-game Opening Series presented by Sycuan Casino Resort against the Rockies beginning on Opening Day, Thursday, March 30. The opening homestand will conclude with a two-game series against the Diamondbacks from April 3-4.

Home weekends for the Padres in 2023 are highlighted by series against National League West opponents, including two weekend tilts against the Dodgers, as well as one weekend series against the Diamondbacks, Giants and Rockies. The Milwaukee Brewers, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Tampa Bay Rays, Washington Nationals, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, and St. Louis Cardinals also pay weekend visits to Petco Park. The Padres will host the Rays at Petco Park on Father’s Day (June 18), the Los Angeles Angels on Independence Day (July 4) and the Philadelphia Phillies on Labor Day (September 4).

Interleague play in 2023 will bring the Kansas City Royals (May 15-17), Red Sox (May 19-21), Seattle Mariners (June 6-7), Cleveland Guardians (June 13-15), Rays (June 16-18), Angels (July 3-5), Rangers (July 28-30) and Baltimore Orioles (August 14-16) to America’s Finest City. This will mark the fourth appearance at Petco Park for the Red Sox and their fifth overall in San Diego, and only the third visit to Petco Park for both the Guardians and Rays. For Interleague road contests, the Padres will visit Minnesota (May 9-11), New York (May 26-28), Toronto (July 18-20), Detroit (July 21-23), Seattle (August 8-9), Houston (September 8-10), Oakland (September 15-17) and Chicago (September 29- October 1).

The club concludes their 2023 regular season home schedule with a six-game homestand against the Rockies (September 18-20) and St. Louis Cardinals (September 22-24). San Diego will close out the 2023 regular season on the road with a six-game road trip at the Giants (September 25-27) and Chicago White Sox (September 29-October 1).
