September 11th, 2022

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced prior to Sunday’s series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays that the club has selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Tyson Miller from Triple-A Round Rock.  To make room for Miller on both the active 28-man roster and the Major League roster, right-handed pitcher Kohei Arihara has been designated for assignment.

Miller will be in his second stint with the Rangers this season.  He was with the club from June 10-15 as a replacement player for a COVID 19-Related Injury List placement, allowing 7 runs-6 earned runs in 3.0 innings over 2 games/one start.  His last outing with Texas came in a start on June 15 vs. Houston (0.2 IP, 6 R-ER).  Miller has spent the balance of the season at Round Rock, going 4-7 with a 4.73 ERA (44 ER/83.2 IP) over 27 games/15 starts with the Express, where he has averaged 11.9 strikeouts per 9 innings.  His last Triple-A appearance was a start on Wednesday vs. Sugar Land (3.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R-ER, 3 BB, 6 SO, 71 pitches/45 strikes).

Arihara went 1-3 with a 9.45 ERA over 5 games/4 starts for Texas after having his contract selected from Round Rock on August 16.  He took the loss in a start on Saturday vs. Toronto (3.0 IP, 11 R-ER).  The Rangers have 7 days to trade, release, or outright Arihara to the minor leagues.

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers currently have 28 active players along with 40 players on the Major League roster and three players (Mitch Garver, Josh Sborz, Eli White) on the 60-day Injured List.
