LATEST NEWS

Sept. 22: 3B scratched from lineup
The Dodgers’ third baseman was scratched from Sunday’s lineup as he deals with general body soreness, according to manager Dave Roberts. Muncy is fully expected to be back in the lineup for the highly anticipated series opener against the Padres on Tuesday.

Sept. 20: RHP recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City; LHP optioned to Triple-A
Casparius embarks upon his third stint with the Dodgers. He made his Major League debut on Aug. 31, throwing a 1-2-3 inning against the D-backs at Chase Field and ultimately earning the win.

Logue made two appearances during his time with Los Angeles, allowing four earned runs on six hits while striking out four in two-plus innings.

INJURY UPDATES

RHP/DH (elbow surgery)
Expected return:
2025 (as a pitcher)
Ohtani threw 10 pitches in the bullpen on Aug. 24, his first time throwing off a mound since having elbow surgery last September. Manager Dave Roberts said Ohtani came out of the session feeling good.

The plan is for Ohtani to ramp up and face hitters in live practice settings before the end of the season and then shut down for the offseason. While the team has long insisted that Ohtani wouldn't pitch in 2024, Roberts reversed course somewhat during a Sept. 13 interview on SiriusXM MLB Network Radio.

“I think that you should always leave some margin, a crack in the door for any possibility,” Roberts said. “If things line up and there’s a need, and the game, [Ohtani’s] body, everything is telling us that it makes sense in that situation, great. It would be storybook.” (Last updated: Sept. 20)

10-day/15-day injured list

LHP (left hand fracture)
Expected return: Possibly final week of the season
Banda, who has been one of the Dodgers’ best bullpen finds this season, was unexpectedly placed on the injured list with a left hand fracture on Sept. 10. Manager Dave Roberts said Banda took on a “solid object” in a moment of “frustration and weakness,” which led to a hairline fracture on his pitching hand.

Banda threw a bullpen session on Sept. 19, and he'll throw another over the weekend, this time working in his slider. Roberts said Banda might be able to return as soon as he's eligible, which would be Sept. 25 -- a major turnaround from the initial expectations that his season was likely over. LHP (bone spur in left big toe)
Expected return: Before the end of the regular season
Kershaw threw about 80 pitches in a bullpen session on Sept. 18 at loanDepot park, the most significant step in the right direction since the left-hander landed on the injured list on Aug. 31. He threw a side session on Sept. 20, and manager Dave Roberts said the Dodgers intend to have him face live hitters the following week, although his toe is still healing, which is preventing him from executing his pitches at full strength.

If things continue to progress, the Dodgers and Kershaw are hopeful he can make at least one regular-season appearance to get him ready for the postseason. (Last updated: Sept. 20)

RHP (right shoulder inflammation)
Expected return:
Likely 2025
Stone was scheduled to play catch at loanDepot park for the first time since landing on the IL on Sept. 6, but the right-hander was still experiencing discomfort in the back of his shoulder and the session won’t happen for at least a couple more days.

Given where the Dodgers are in the calendar, Stone’s regular season has come to an end and the chances of him returning in the postseason is “very unlikely,” according to manager Dave Roberts. (Last updated: Sept. 18)

C (fractured left big toe)
Expected return: Maybe postseason
Barnes exited in the fifth inning on Sept. 15 after fouling a ball off the same toe that landed him on the injured list on Aug. 19. The injury will likely keep Barnes out for the rest of the regular season, but the Dodgers are hopeful he’ll return in time to serve as the team’s backup in the postseason. (Last updated: Sept. 16)

60-day IL

RHP (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return: As early as final regular-season series
Gonsolin made his third rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sept. 21 and it was his best one yet. The right-hander tossed three hitless innings and struck out six, needing just 45 pitches to get through the outing.

Gonsolin could be an option to pitch in the final series of the regular season at Coors Field, but the Dodgers will wait until he goes through his next bullpen session before determining the next steps. He could be an option for the Dodgers in the postseason. (Last updated: Sept. 22)

RHP (right elbow tendinitis)
Expected return:
2025
After not going through with a simulated game on Sept. 13 due to right elbow discomfort as he warmed up in the bullpen, Glasnow got additional scans to determine the severity of the injury. Those scans revealed a “sprained elbow,” manager Dave Roberts said on Sept. 14. Glasnow, who was transferred to the 60-day IL on Sept. 18, has been shut down from throwing for the foreseeable future, ending his season much sooner than the right-hander and the Dodgers were hoping.

On Sept. 20, Glasnow shared that he doesn't expect to need surgery, but the elbow will require continued monitoring and reimaging before he can resume throwing. (Last updated: Sept. 20)

RHP (right plantar fasciitis)
Expected return:
TBD
Brogdon, who was acquired from the Phillies on April 6, has been sidelined since April 10 and was transferred to the 60-day IL on May 19. He began a rehab assignment with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Aug. 17, throwing a scoreless inning. He moved to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Aug. 20, where he has made 10 appearances as of Sept. 18. RHP (right forearm tightness)
Expected return:
2025 at earliest
Ryan had successful Tommy John surgery after suffering a UCL strain during his Aug. 11 start against the Pirates. After multiple scans, the Dodgers determined he needed Tommy John surgery. The 26-year-old rookie right-hander went 1-0 with a 1.33 ERA in four starts before suffering his season-ending injury. (Last updated: Aug. 25)

RHP (right flexor tendon surgery; esophagus)
Expected return: 2025
May underwent surgery to repair his esophagus and stomach on July 10 after reporting pain in those areas after dinner that day.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on July 14 that he “was shocked” by the news, noting May was in Arizona.

“Soreness of the throat and the stomach, and goes to the ER and gets surgery,” said Roberts. “He gets surgery, and he’s done for the year. Obviously, him coming back, if everything was great, was still a longer shot. But how his season ended is very unfortunate. I’m just glad he’s OK.”

May underwent right elbow surgery performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles to repair his flexor tendon July 18, 2023. It was his second major elbow surgery in the past three seasons, and the Dodgers placed him on the 60-day injured list to begin the 2024 season. Read more >> (Last updated: July 14)

RHP (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return:
2025
Sheehan suffered an injury in his first bullpen session of the spring and never got into Cactus League action. The right-hander had started throwing to hitters for the first time, but on May 16 the Dodgers announced that he had undergone successful surgery on his right UCL that would end his 2024 season.
