MIAMI -- Adrian Lorenzo has taken over as senior director of the Marlins' international operations, the club announced on Wednesday as part of an array of baseball operations promotions. His new role was reported last month.

Fernando Seguignol held the role of director of international operations from Nov. 2017 until this past September, when the organization had hoped to reassign him. He instead opted to leave. Of Miami's Top 30 prospects per MLB Pipeline, six were international signees during Seguignol's tenure.

Lorenzo will enter his fourth season with his hometown Marlins in 2022. He served as the director of baseball operations in '21 after acting as a special assistant to baseball operations and scouting, where he oversaw various aspects of the professional scouting and international scouting departments. Prior to joining the Marlins, he worked for six years with the Red Sox ('13-18), which included stints as the coordinator of international scouting and assistant director for international scouting.

Aiding Lorenzo will be Adrian Puig, who was named international crosschecker in his ninth season with the organization. Puig joined the Marlins in 2014 as an intern in player development, then spent the next seven years in the scouting department as an area scout ('15-19) and a pro scout ('20-21). In his new role, Puig will help evaluate and supervise all talent acquisition related to international amateur free agents and supervise the area scouts in the Caribbean and Latin America. Saturday marks the beginning of the international signing period.

Below are the additional changes to the front office:

DJ Svihlik -- Senior director of amateur scouting
Svihlik, who begins his fifth season with the Marlins, joined the organization as an advisor in the baseball operations department in Nov. 2017 before being named the director of amateur scouting in June 2018. Each of the Marlins' last three Draft classes, including the most recent one led by Kahlil Watson, have helped the organization's farm system rank in MLB’s top five. Svihlik previously spent time as an area scout and national crosschecker for the Yankees and was Vanderbilt University's hitting coach and recruiting coordinator for a year.

Geoff DeGroot -- Director of player development
DeGroot will oversee and direct the development of all of the Marlins’ Minor League players, from the Dominican Republic Academy through Triple-A Jacksonville, in his fifth season with the organization. His duties will include individual programming for baseball objectives as well as personal development initiatives both on the field and off it, as well as directing Minor League coordinators and coaches. DeGroot spent 2021 as Miami’s director of Minor League operations. Before joining the Marlins, he worked as an assistant in the Yankees' player development department.

Hector Crespo -- Director of Minor League operations
Crespo takes over DeGroot's previous role in his seventh season with the Marlins. He began his career in 2016 as an intern with player development and baseball operations, and served as the assistant director of Minor League operations in '21.
