The Marlins acquired right-hander Bradley Blalock from the Rockies for Minor League right-hander Jake Brooks on Tuesday. To make room on the roster for Blalock, Miami designated right-hander Osvaldo Bido for assignment.
Blalock, 25, was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for righty Michael Lorenzen, who finalized a one-year, $8 million contract with Colorado on Thursday.
The trade for Blalock adds a pitcher with Major League experience to Miami’s staff after the team traded Edward Cabrera to the Cubs and Ryan Weathers to the Yankees earlier this month.
Blalock has recorded an 8.16 ERA over 21 games (18 starts) in the big leagues, making his debut with the Brewers in June 2024 before being traded to the Rockies with Yujanyer Herrera for reliever Nick Mears the following month.
The Rockies added starter depth in the Minors by acquiring Brooks, an 11th-round Marlins pick in 2023 out of UCLA. The 24-year-old reached Double-A for the first time in 2025 and went 2-2 with a 4.58 ERA in seven starts at Pensacola in the Southern League. He has a career 17-12 record and a 3.32 ERA in 48 games (44 starts), with 188 strikeouts against 49 walks in 238 1/3 professional innings pitched.
Listed at 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, Brooks possesses a low-90s fastball and low-80s slider, and he sprinkles in an effective low-80s changeup.
