Caden Sorrell has a unique baseball lineage, with both of his grandfathers having played Major League Baseball. The Cubs’ 2026 second-round pick has certainly gotten off to a strong start on his own journey toward the big leagues.
Sorrell gathered five RBIs on Wednesday amid three hits -- both early career highs -- for Single-A Myrtle Beach. The Cubs’ No. 7 prospect also hit his fourth professional home run as the Pelicans defeated Columbia, 6-2, at Pelicans Ballpark.
Sorrell singled on a liner to center field in the first, pulled a three-run bomb off the right-field foul pole in the third and drove in two more with a bloop single to right-center field in the sixth.
In 22 professional games thus far, Sorrell already has nine multi-hit outings on a .298/.352/.500 slash line. He has also driven in 15 RBIs and flashes good speed with eight steals. The 21-year-old out of Texas A&M has additionally played all three outfield spots thus far.

There are swing-and-miss concerns in Sorrell’s profile, but he boasts 55-grade power with a looping lefty swing. The Cubs went slightly over slot with a $1.65 million signing bonus for the 62nd overall pick, who was a legitimate prospect out of high school but chose to honor his college commitment to the Aggies. Sorrell was an All-America selection in 2026 after hitting 23 homers in his final college season.
