MIAMI -- Before taking the field against the Reds on Monday night, Marlins executives and several players met with students at SLAM Miami Charter School, located a couple of blocks from Marlins Park.

The visit to SLAM was the fourth event as part of the Marlins’ “Impact Week,” which corresponds with students heading back to school.

From the Marlins, Jon Berti, Lewis Brinson, Adam Conley, Isan Diaz, Kyle Keller, Bryan Holaday and Caleb Smith were joined by members of the front office as the organization hosted a farmers market-style food distribution in partnership with Feeding South Florida for families from the school and community.

The players then split up, with half the group visiting different classrooms and lunchrooms, while Berti, Brinson and Diaz joined president of baseball operations Michael Hill for a panel discussion based on Jackie Robinson’s nine values. Students gathered in the gymnasium to hear from Hill and the players before getting a chance to ask questions of their own.

The fifth stop of the week will be on Tuesday morning at Kensington Park Elementary in Little Havana, where players and coaches will take part in serving students lunch.

Worth noting

• The Marlins on Monday reinstated right-hander Pablo López (right shoulder strain) from the 10-day injured list, and he started against the Reds. He allowed four runs on five hits and one walk in five innings, with three strikeouts in the 6-3 loss.

In their corresponding move, lefty reliever José Quijada was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans. Quijada, however, is expected to be called back up when rosters expand on Sept. 1.

• Catcher Chad Wallach had another setback in his recovery from a concussion. Wallach was returned from his rehab assignment with Triple-A New Orleans.

Wallach, on the 60-day injured list, suffered the concussion on May 21 at Detroit. He took a foul ball off the mask and has had repeated issues since. He was expected to be reinstated in September, but it now appears his season may be over.
