As Major League teams prepare for rosters to expand next week and the final push for the postseason begins, the Marlins have some solid options down the pipe for those September callups.

Miami has had five of its Top 30 prospects, as ranked by MLB Pipeline, debut this season. There’s a chance a few more get the call when rosters move to 28 players on Sept. 1. Fans have seen how much success Eury Pérez, who began the season as the Marlins’ No. 1 prospect, has had since he skipped Double-A and made his debut in mid May.

George Soriano, who was ranked Miami’s No. 24 prospect before he graduated from the list, has also found a spot for himself on the Major League roster. Soriano was placed on the paternity list on Friday, but he’ll most certainly continue to provide some length when needed out of the bullpen.

As we gear up for the final month of the regular season, here’s a look at one prospect at each level of the Minors (stats entering Sunday):

Triple-A Jacksonville: 1B Troy Johnston (No. 23)

Johnston, who began the season at Double-A Pensacola after being promoted to Jacksonville last August, has been tearing it up since he joined the Jumbo Shrimp at the end of July.

The first baseman has reached base in all 27 of his games with Jacksonville and has a 30-game on-base streak between Triple-A and Double-A. That also includes multihit efforts in four of his past five games.

Double-A Pensacola: 3B Jacob Berry (No. 5)

Berry is one of a few prospects whom Ng spoke highly of this past week when she caught up with some reporters in San Diego.

“Jacob has been doing pretty well in Double-A,” Ng said. “He's been there maybe three weeks, so a decent number of ABs under his belt, so that's been great to see.”

Berry was promoted to Double-A on July 25 after slashing .227/.278/.369 at High-A Beloit. Since his promotion, Berry has had multiple hits in four of his past six games and has hit .267 in the month of August.

High-A Beloit: 2B/SS Yiddi Cappe (No. 8)

Cappe, who the Marlins signed as an international free agent in January 2021, hit his second triple of the year on Thursday and had his second three-hit game of August last Sunday.

Cappe is also showing off his arm strength, which MLB Pipeline gives a 60 on the scouting grade scale. On Tuesday, he caught Lake County’s Joe Lampe trying to stretch a double into a triple on the relay throw.

Single-A Jupiter: RHP Noble Meyer (No. 1)

Meyer, the Marlins’ No. 10 overall pick in this year’s Draft, was promoted to Single-A after just three starts at the Rookie level. Meyer is still building up as he begins his professional career, but he’s already showing that he’s a well-rounded starter.

In his debut for the Hammerheads, Meyer threw three scoreless innings and allowed just two hits with no walks and four strikeouts. He faltered some in his second start, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk (two strikeouts) over 1 2/3 innings on Saturday, but that’s to be expected.

“That was part of the plan,” Ng said of Meyer’s fast promotion. “And I think we can see he's a fairly polished pitcher.”
