Mookie scratched with wrist soreness, but expected back for opener vs. Padres

WEST SACRAMENTO -- was scratched ahead of Wednesday night's 7-1 loss to the A's at Sutter Health Park due to right wrist soreness, but the Dodgers are hopeful that he will only end up missing one game.

Betts informed manager Dave Roberts about the soreness in his wrist more than five hours before first pitch, and the shortstop was initially in the lineup as the Dodgers waited to see how he responded to treatment. A few hours later, the team decided to sit Betts as a precaution.

After the game, Roberts said Betts' wrist was already feeling better following treatment. He is expected to return to the starting lineup for Thursday's series opener against the Padres at Dodger Stadium.

"He said with treatment he felt better, felt a lot of relief," Roberts said. "Our expectation is tomorrow he'll be back in there."

With Betts out, Miguel Rojas filled in at shortstop, and Max Muncy moved up to the cleanup spot.

Betts has been resurgent at the plate lately, hitting 25-for-67 (.373) with a 1.065 OPS in his last 16 games. In that span, he's raised his season OPS from .591 to .744, helping him move past another slow start to begin the year.
