MIAMI -- Mets first baseman Brett Baty exited in the second inning of New York's 15-14 victory over the Marlins on Wednesday with left knee pain, according to the club.
But interim manager Andy Green said Baty had a smile on his face after the game.
“He thought he was going to be OK,” Green said. “We’ll see what he’s like [Thursday] and get a better feel.”
Baty drove in New York’s second run of the inning with a single through the left side of the infield at loanDepot park.
He appeared to injure the knee as he approached first base.
Baty was replaced by pinch-runner Christopher Morel, who stayed in the game and took over at first base in the bottom of the second -- and hit a two-run homer to left that gave the Mets an 8-0 lead in the third. Morel finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
Morel, who was released by the Marlins in June and signed a Minor League contract with the Mets on July 1, hit his first home run since joining New York -- against his former team.
The RBI single by Baty was part of a strong run of late for the 26-year-old. He hit a home run in Tuesday’s win against the Marlins and now has a six-game hitting streak.
