Holmes departs start vs. A's with left hamstring tightness

NEW YORK -- , the Mets’ most consistent pitcher in the early part of this season, exited Friday night’s 4-0 loss to the A’s at Citi Field alongside a trainer with left hamstring tightness.

Holmes was cruising through his third start of the season, allowing one run in the third inning but no additional damage, when assistant trainer Bryan Baca came to the mound in the sixth. Following a brief conversation, Holmes departed alongside Baca.

In his second year with the Mets, Holmes had demonstrated notable improvements in several areas, leading to a 1.50 ERA through three starts. Holmes threw just 81 pitches before departing Friday’s game and experienced a slight velocity drop in the sixth. His final pitch, which Jacob Wilson hit for a single, was an 86.7 mph cutter -- Holmes’ slowest of the night.

Tobias Myers entered and was given additional time to warm.

If Holmes must miss time, Myers would be one of several candidates to replace him. So would Sean Manaea, who hasn’t been quite as successful as Myers but has stayed stretched out in the bullpen. Other options inside the organization include Triple-A pitchers Jonah Tong and Christian Scott.
