ATLANTA -- The Mets’ nail-biting victory on Sunday was one of many instances in baseball where anything can happen at any given moment.
Two teams, one inning, 11 runs. It doesn't get much crazier than that.
Monday topped that craziness, as Juan Soto and Luis Torrens spearheaded the Mets’ late-game comeback to beat the Braves, 7-6, in the 10th inning of the series finale at Truist Park.
Soto shook, or more so silenced, the ballpark first. With the Mets trailing 3-2 and down to their final out, the now-five-time All-Star gave them new life, launching a three-run blast into right field and making it a 5-3 game. It handed New York its first lead since the second, ended Braves closer Raisel Iglesias’ 35-game save streak and sucked the life out of Truist Park.
The Mets turned to Devin Williams, who closed out Sunday’s win, but Matt Olson quickly spoiled the save opportunity, hitting a two-run homer into the left-field bullpen to tie the game on his second blast of the day.
In need of another jolt, Torrens delivered in the 10th by lacing a double into left field during his first at-bat of the game, pushing the Mets' lead back to 7-5.
New York called on Luke Weaver, who entered with a 25-inning scoreless streak, in another attempt to shut the door in the 10th.
The Braves were able to cut the Mets' lead to 7-6 and load the bases with two outs, but Weaver produced a game-ending groundout to shortstop to end it.
