NEW YORK -- When the Mets last saw Tobias Myers, he was in the midst of one of the deepest struggles of his career, allowing runs in eight consecutive appearances before receiving a demotion to Triple-A Syracuse.
The Mets hope the version of Myers that returned on Sunday will be far more effective. Prior to Sunday’s game against the Giants, the Mets recalled Myers and optioned left-hander Jefry Yan to Syracuse. Interim manager Andy Green said he expects Myers to work in two- or three-inning stints out of the bullpen.
Early this season, Myers was one of the Mets’ best relievers, with a 2.05 ERA over his first 10 appearances. But he hit a snag after that, twice going to the Minors amidst bouts of poor performance. Initially, Myers struggled in Triple-A, as well, but he ended his run there with a 1.23 ERA over his final six appearances.
Myers, who came to the Mets in the January trade that also brought Freddy Peralta to Flushing, is under team control for four more seasons.
Yan, a 30-year-old rookie known for his on-field celebrations, allowed eight runs (seven earned) over his final seven innings in the Majors.
