SAN DIEGO -- Behold the power of pink.
Donning a pink undershirt with pink sleeves, pink spikes, pink lettering on his jersey and a pink interlocking "NY" on his cap, Matt Harvey submitted what may have been his best start of the season in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Padres. Swinging a pink bat, catcher Kevin Plawecki continued heating up at the plate. Wearing bright pink wrist bands and a matching compression sleeve, outfielder Yoenis Cespedes tacked on a solo homer to power the offense.
"Hitting a home run today is special," said Cespedes, who defected with his mother from Cuba in 2011, and still regularly spends time with her. "I dedicate it to my mom and moms around the world."

Of course, Harvey and Cespedes were far from the only Mets to don pink threads for Sunday's game; every player across baseball wore the color in some form on Mother's Day. Authentic game-used Louisville Slugger pink bats and other gear from Mother's Day games will be auctioned exclusively at MLB.com, with proceeds benefiting the fight against breast cancer. Among the Mets' fashion highlights were Cespedes' pink wrist bands and compression sleeve, Plawecki's pink bat and reliever Antonio Bastardo's pink spikes, which he wore while stranding the bases loaded to preserve a one-run lead in the eighth. Nearly every Mets player laced up pink shoes in some form, though second baseman Neil Walker and pitcher Noah Syndergaard went above and beyond with a floral-pattern model.
"My mom will be happy," laughed Walker, who appeared only as a pinch-hitter.
Plawecki had more success with his pink lumber, doubling and scoring in the second inning to finish 4-for-10 with a walk and two runs in the four-game series.
"It did feel good," Plawecki said, grinning after the game. "I'll give that to mom."
