The MLB Awards is the most star-studded night of baseball's offseason calendar. Think of it like the Grammys for the Major Leagues: Some of the game's best players are honored with awards in front of a live audience in a grand celebration of baseball.
Here is what you need to know about the 2025 MLB Awards presented by MGM Rewards.
How can I watch the MLB Awards?
This year's show took place at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and aired on MLB Network. It also streamed on MLB.com, MLB.TV and the MLB App.
Who are the hosts of the 2025 MLB Awards?
Dodgers star Mookie Betts and renowned comedian Roy Wood Jr. will serve as the show's co-hosts. Wood was the show's host in 2023 and '24. This will be Betts’ first time hosting an awards show, though he was nominated for a 2024 Sports Emmy for Emerging On-Air Talent for his work with Bleacher Report, TBS and FOX Sports.
Current and retired players scheduled to attend the show include Ronald Acuña Jr., Corbin Carroll, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Dexter Fowler, Adam Jones, Cal Raleigh, CC Sabathia, Gary Sheffield, Will Smith and Juan Soto.
When were the MLB Awards established?
This will be the third annual MLB Awards show. It was previously known as the All-MLB Team Awards as it took place during All-MLB Weekend. The show has originated from Las Vegas each year.
What awards will be handed out?
Here is a quick breakdown of each award that will be presented during the 2025 MLB Awards.
Hank Aaron Awards
Given annually to the best overall offensive performer in each league, the Hank Aaron Award winners are determined by a combination of a fan vote and a panel of Hall of Famers. Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani won this award in their respective league last year. Each superstar is looking to capture his third Hank Aaron Award this year. A third win for Ohtani is a safe assumption after he led his league in slugging percentage (.622) and OPS (1.014) for the third straight season.
Judge certainly had a year worthy of another Hank Aaron Award as he led the Majors in each triple-slash category (.331 average, .457 on-base percentage, .688 slugging). But he faces stiff competition from the Mariners catcher and 60-homer slugger Cal Raleigh.
Comeback Player of the Year Awards
The Comeback Player of the Year Awards honor one player from each league who has overcome adversity to return to a high level of performance in the Major Leagues.
Garrett Crochet was the AL recipient of this honor last year while with the White Sox. The Braves' Chris Sale won it in the NL. The award might stay in Atlanta, considering how Ronald Acuña Jr. returned from an ACL tear that cost him most of last season to bat .290 with 21 homers and a .938 OPS over 99 games.
The favorite in the American League is likely Rangers starter Jacob deGrom. After a series of injury-shortened campaigns -- including 2024, when he pitched just 10 2/3 innings after recovering from Tommy John surgery -- deGrom had a Cy Young-caliber season for Texas. He registered a 2.97 ERA over 172 2/3 innings, his most since 2019.
Rivera/Hoffman Reliever of the Year Awards
Named for Hall of Fame closers Mariano Rivera and Trevor Hoffman when the awards were established in 2014, these honors go to the best reliever in each league. Last year's winners were the Guardians' Emmanuel Clase in the AL and the Cardinals' Ryan Helsley in the NL.
MLB.com's Brent Maguire wrote a full breakdown of the top candidates in each league this year. His lists are topped by Red Sox 37-year-old fireballer Aroldis Chapman and the Phillies' Jhoan Duran.
Edgar Martinez Outstanding Designated Hitter
The Outstanding DH Award has been handed out since the designated hitter was first adopted by the AL in 1973, and it was renamed in honor of five-time winner and Hall of Famer Edgar Martinez in 2004. Ohtani has won the award in each of the past four seasons -- and should be considered the heavy favorite to take it home in 2025.
All-MLB Teams
The All-MLB First and Second Teams will be revealed during the show. The All-MLB Team was introduced in 2019 to honor players’ full-season contributions, given that All-Star selections are based on first-half performance. Fans were asked to vote at MLB.com to help choose first- and second-team selections at each position (including three outfielders, a DH, five starting pitchers and two relievers) among this year's nominees.
The nominees are headlined by Judge, Ohtani and the Mets' Juan Soto, who are all seeking their fifth All-MLB Team selection. Forty-six nominees are previous All-MLB Team members, including 20 All-MLB honorees from last year.
Executive of the Year Award
This honor will be announced during the GM Meetings, which will take place in San Antonio this year. As with other awards, voting is completed prior to the start of the postseason, which means results from the playoffs aren’t taken into account. The 2024 winner was Brewers general manager Matt Arnold.
