Pirates' game vs. Reds postponed due to rain

To be made up as part of a split doubleheader on May 27

March 30th, 2019

CINCINNATI -- The Pirates’ second game of the season was postponed due to rain.

The Bucs were scheduled to play the Reds at 2:10 p.m. ET on Saturday at Great American Ball Park. The Reds announced around 1:30 p.m. that the game would not begin on time. After a 40-minute delay, it was officially called off as rain continued to fall along the Ohio River.

The game was rescheduled as part of a split doubleheader on May 27 at Great American Ball Park. The first half of the doubleheader will take place at 1:10 p.m. with the second game set for 7:10 p.m. Fans holding tickets for Saturday's postponed game may present their same ticket for the rescheduled game on Monday, May 27 at 7:10 p.m. with no exchange necessary.

The Pirates and Reds will play their series finale as scheduled on Sunday at 1:10 p.m. Right-hander Trevor Williams, who was set to make his season debut on Saturday, is now scheduled to start on Sunday against Reds right-hander Sonny Gray.

Right-hander Chris Archer will start the Pirates’ home opener against the Cardinals on Monday at PNC Park, as planned. The Bucs will have another scheduled off-day on Tuesday, then Opening Day starter Jameson Taillon will pitch in Wednesday’s game on five days’ rest.

The Pirates have not revealed their rotation beyond Wednesday’s game, but Saturday’s postponement means that Joe Musgrove -- originally slated to start Sunday’s series finale -- will have his season debut bumped back to Thursday or later.

This is the third year in a row that the Pirates have had a game called off during their first series of the season. Their series finale was rained out in Boston in 2017, and they had two weather-related postponements last season in Detroit before playing a getaway-day doubleheader at Comerica Park.
