What’s Happening This Weekend: Phillies vs. Mets, September 21-24

On-field recognition of Roberto Clemente Award nominee Kyle Schwarber, Hall of Famer Scott Rolen to be inducted into Toyota Phillies Wall of Fame and Fan Appreciation Day! Also honored: Rothman Hometown Hero and Gold Star father Charles Strange, Phillies Home Run Derby champions and long-time day-of-game employees

It’s the final homestand of the regular season, beginning with the Phillies taking on the New York Mets during a four-game series on September 21-24 at Citizens Bank Park! Here are some of the highlights:

1. On Thursday, September 21, the Phillies will recognize outfielder Kyle Schwarber for being the club’s 2023 Roberto Clemente Award nominee before that evening’s 7:15 p.m. game, which will be broadcast nationally on FOX. Plus, it’s the eighth annual Phillies Band Night.

  • At 6:40 p.m., Schwarber, also founder of Schwarber’s Neighborhood Heroes, will be honored on-field by Phillies Charities, Inc. President John Weber for being the club’s Roberto Clemente Award nominee.
  • The Roberto Clemente Award is bestowed annually to the player who best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field. Vote here for Schwarber to win the award.
  • Also happening: 13 local marching bands will perform on Citizens Bank Way. Plus, Penncrest Roaring Lions Marching Band will perform the national anthem and Hatboro-Horsham High School Marching Band will perform on-field.

2. Be in your seats by 6:20 p.m. as Phillies Wall of Famers return for the on-field Toyota Scott Rolen Wall of Fame Salute being held on Friday, September 22, before that night’s 7:05 p.m. game. The game will also be broadcast on Apple TV+.

  • The Phillies will bestow one of the team’s highest honors upon Scott Rolen, an eight-time Gold Glove third baseman and seven-time All-Star, as he is inducted into the Toyota Phillies Wall of Fame.
  • Fellow Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt will be a guest speaker and there will also be a special presentation by Phillies Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer John Middleton. Rolen’s plaque will also be officially unveiled at the Toyota Phillies Wall of Fame.
  • Highlights include on-field introductions of Toyota Phillies Wall of Famers. Also in attendance will be Rolen’s former teammates.

  • Plus, Jayme Ciampa, a former U.S. Army Nurse Corps captain who is now connected with Warrior Canine Connection’s Mission Based Trauma Recovery program, where she has worked with the veteran community and Major, the Phillies’ service pup-in-training, will represent Toyota and have the honor of throwing a ceremonial first pitch.
  • Also happening: Charles Strange, Gold Star father and founder of the Michael Strange Foundation, will have the honor of changing the base in the third inning as that night’s Rothman Hometown Hero.

3. On Saturday, September 23, the Phillies Home Run Derby champions will be recognized on-field before that afternoon’s 4:05 p.m. game.

  • The area’s top young sluggers, who were winners of the Phillies Home Run Derby championship presented by Berkshire Hathaway Fox & Roach, REALTORS held earlier that morning at Citizens Bank Park, will be honored by the club.
  • Budweiser Block Party! Enjoy pregame fun at the Budweiser Batter’s Eye Bar behind Section 148.

4. Get ready for prizes and surprises on Fan Appreciation Day at the 1:05 p.m. game on Sunday, September 24! Plus, all fans 15 and over will receive a 2024 Schedule Magnet presented by Valley Forge Tourism.

  • Also happening: the Phillies will recognize Gold Star Mother’s Day, held nationally to honor those who have lost a son or daughter while serving the United States armed forces.
  • In addition, the team will honor their 25-year employees (security supervisor Ken Brown; family lounge supervisor Linda Redfern; executive dining room host Georgia “Kit” Slaughter; and security director Carmen Verrilli) and 50-year day of game employees (grounds crew member Rob Wright and hostess Cheryl Hughes).

5. Plus, it’s the final Phillies Charities, Inc. Online Auction of the regular season, which takes place until September 29, at 6:00 p.m.!

  • Bid on game-used items and memorabilia signed by the 2023 Phillies including Alec Bohm, Nick Castellanos, Seranthony Dominguez, Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins, Brandon Marsh, J.T. Realmuto, Kyle Schwarber, Edmundo Sosa, Gregory Soto, Bryson Stott, Garrett Stubbs, Rob Thomson, Trea Turner, Taijuan Walker and Zach Wheeler.

  • Gate Openings: Gates open at 5:35 p.m. for Thursday’s and Friday’s games, 2:35 p.m. for Saturday’s game, and 11:35 a.m. for Sunday’s game.
