Fister (knee) likely done for season

Right-hander returns home to complete rehab

August 13th, 2018

ARLINGTON -- Right-hander Doug Fister is unlikely to pitch for the Rangers again this season.
Fister has returned home to finish rehabbing a right knee strain that has sidelined him since June 10.
"Very tough, challenging year for him," Texas manager Jeff Banister said. "One that I'm sure, at times, probably a little frustrating for him. We'll miss him. We'll miss him in the clubhouse and miss him on a daily basis."
Fister was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on June 17. This is his second stint on the disabled list this season; he missed 13 games with a right hip strain in April. The Rangers signed Fister in the offseason and will have to decide if they want to pick up his $4.5 million option for next season.
Although he'll continue his rehab at home, Fister could return to Arlington in September to be checked out by the Rangers' medical staff. Fister is 1-7 with a 4.50 ERA in 12 starts this season.
Mazara slated for stint at Double-A Frisco on Tuesday
Outfielder is expected to play nine innings for Double-A Frisco on Tuesday against Arkansas. Mazara has been on the disabled list with a sprained right thumb since July 20.
Banister said he wants to see Mazara play consecutive games in the outfield before making a decision on when he could be activated.
Mazara went 2-for-3 and served as a designated hitter for Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday before the game was suspended in the top of the fifth. Mazara could return as early as Thursday, when the Rangers open a four-game series against the Angels in Arlington.
Rangers beat
received a day off and was not in the lineup for Monday's series opener against the D-backs. Profar had a seven-game hitting streak to start the month but is hitless in his last 14 at-bats.
• The Rangers will begin the countdown of remaining regular-season games at Globe Life Park on Monday. At the end of the fifth inning, Rangers Hall of Fame outfielder Rusty Greer will take part in a ceremony to unveil a sign in left field to indicate that 100 home games remain this season.
The sign will be updated after the fifth inning of each home game.
