'Violent swing' has Gallo in line for MRI on wrist

SEATTLE -- Outfielder is scheduled to have an MRI on his sore right wrist after he left the Rangers’ 7-2 victory over the Mariners in the bottom of the eighth inning on Tuesday night at T-Mobile Park.

Gallo has been bothered by the wrist before and really felt it on his final at-bat in the eighth inning, when he was retired on a high foul popup behind third base.

“He kind of goes through it,” manager Chris Woodward said. “He is so violent with his swing. I don’t care how strong you are wrist-wise -- it’s a lot of torque on small bones, ligaments and tendons. I always worry about that with him because he has such a violent swing.”

Gallo had an X-ray at T-Mobile Park after coming out of the game, and the results were negative. But the Rangers still want him to undergo an MRI, and Gallo is not expected to play on Wednesday.

“He is really sore and said when he tries to hit inside the ball it has been bothering him,” Woodward said. “I know it bothered him in Houston. He’s really tough, and he likes to play through things. But it was a little more sore than before, so we felt get him out of there and have it X-rayed. Unless the MRI shows something structurally wrong, it might just be a sore wrist.”

Gallo, who started in center field, was 1-for-4 in the game. His only hit was a bunt single in the third inning. It was his third bunt hit of the season. He is now 4-for-34 with 19 strikeouts since the All-Star break.
