Hernandez to rep Rangers in Futures Game

June 29th, 2017

CLEVELAND -- The Rangers' organization will be represented in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on All-Star Sunday, as pitching prospect Jonathan Hernandez was named to the 2017 World roster on Thursday afternoon.
The game, which features the top Minor League prospects, is a matchup that pits the World roster against the U.S. roster competing in a nine-inning contest. Hernandez was one of the 10 pitchers chosen to the staff of the World roster.

Hernandez -- who has been in the Rangers' organization since 2013 and is the club's No. 18-ranked prospect -- currently plays for Class A Advanced Down East in the Carolina League. He began the 2017 season in the South Atlantic League with Class A Hickory before being promoted.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound right-hander had combined to go 3-7 with a 4.81 ERA through 13 starts for both teams. In 67 1/3 combined innings he had struck 67 and only walked 19. At all Minor League Levels since 2013, Hernandez had gone 22-20 with a 3.61 ERA and 280 punchouts in 75 appearances (66 starts).
Hernandez will look to help the World Team defeat the U.S. for the second year in a row, as the World took last year's contest, 11-3, to snap a six-game U.S. winning streak.
At least one player from each Major League organization is represented within the game, and players from all full-season Minor Leagues were eligible for selection. The 2017 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game takes place on Sunday, July 9, at 3 p.m. CT at Marlins Park in Miami and can be viewed live on MLB Network and MLB.com.
