King homers for 3rd straight game in pro third-base debut

The Nationals plan to reconstruct their Major League infield with the move of star shortstop CJ Abrams to second base. Another young star is also switching positions, with 2024 first-round pick Seaver King (Nationals No. 4, MLB Pipeline No. 71) making his professional debut at third base Wednesday night for Triple-A Rochester.

King did it in style.

The 23-year-old homered for the sixth time in the past 10 games, slashing .375/.467/.719 in 16 contests after returning from a left oblique strain on July 30. He tallied three hits on the day with a walk, two runs and three RBIs to help the Red Wings to a 7-2 win over Omaha (Kansas City Triple-A).

King had played third base in 36 games in 2024 with Wake Forest while starring in the ACC. While rising through Washington’s organization, he’s played 213 games at shortstop and 12 at second base. The Nationals are taking a look at the future as MLB Pipeline’s No. 4 prospect and 2025 first overall pick Eli Willits is thriving at shortstop.
