Maddux departs as Rangers' pitching coach

October 31st, 2025

ARLINGTON -- For the second time in 10 years, is departing the Texas Rangers organization.

Maddux -- who was previously the Rangers’ pitching coach under Ron Washington and Jeff Banister from 2009-2015 -- is leaving once again.

He spent the past three seasons serving under Bruce Bochy, helping the club to its first World Series title in 2023 and the best rotation in baseball in '25 with an MLB-best 3.47 ERA.

According to a source, the Rangers offered Maddux the opportunity to remain with the club on new manager Skip Schumaker’s staff, but he declined. He is joining the Los Angeles Angels in the same role for 2026.

“The Texas Rangers are forever grateful to Mike for his contributions here,” said president of baseball operations Chris Young. “Mike has played a major role for some of the best teams in Rangers history, including the franchise’s first World Series title in 2023. We wish him the best.”

Schumaker’s staff still has not been put together just yet, though catcher’s coach Bobby Wilson is also not returning for 2026.

The futures of the rest of Bochy’s staff remains unclear.

That includes hitting coaches Bret Boone, Justin Viele and Seth Conner, bullpen coach Jordan Tiegs, assistant pitching coach Dave Bush, as well as third-base coach Tony Beasley, first-base coach Corey Ragsdale and bench coach Luis Urueta.

“I commend our coaching staff,” Young said at the end-of-year presser. “These guys showed up to work every single day and gave a tremendous effort. It's really hard when the team struggles or they don't live up to the expectations. These guys came in and they worked, they cared, they were committed. They did a great job.

“We have a number of coaches whose contracts are expiring. But I will say that everybody is in good standing. Our hope is that a number of them will be back, if not all of them. It's still to be determined.”
