ARLINGTON -- Rangers second baseman was out of the starting lineup on Friday night with left-hander Danny Duffy on the mound for the Royals.

Odor was also out of the lineup with a .161 batting average, a .231 on-base percentage and a .329 slugging percentage. His lack of production is making it tougher for the Rangers to continue committing to him as their everyday second baseman.

“I haven’t given up on him,” manager Chris Woodward said. “I believe in him more than any player on the roster. But at some point, he needs to dig a little deeper and try something he is not accustomed to. I don’t want to keep doing the hope thing and hope it all works out. I want to see some push to a solution and understand what the solution is.”

Odor’s numbers stand out in comparison to the Rangers' alternatives at second base. started there on Friday and he entered the game hitting .296 with a .339 on-base percentage and a .478 slugging percentage. , who started at first base, but is an experienced second baseman, was hitting .309 with a .414 on-base percentage and a .485 slugging percentage.

The Rangers are also going to need room for outfielder , who is currently on the injured list with a strained left quad muscle. He could return in 7-10 days.

Odor has three years and at least $36 million remaining on his contract after this season, but he also still has two Minor League options.

“He has been working hard and doing everything we’ve asked,” Woodward said. “Part of being successful is realizing what I have been doing may not work for the rest of my career.”
