Gomez sprains ankle; no timetable for return

September 9th, 2017

ARLINGTON -- Outfielder was on crutches and wearing a boot on his right foot in the Rangers clubhouse after a 3-1 loss to the Yankees on Saturday afternoon. Gomez had to leave the game in the second inning after he rolled his right ankle coming out of the batter's box. Gomez underwent an MRI after the game, and the results showed a "mild" high ankle sprain. The Rangers don't know how long he will be out.
"There is no timetable," manager Jeff Banister said. Gomez turned the ankle after hitting a ground ball to second baseman . He came out of the box limping badly, and then he went down to the ground. He had to be helped off the field by Banister and trainer Kevin Harmon.
"At the moment, I didn't feel good," Gomez said. "I thought it was a broken bone. But we got the diagnosis, and it was a sprained ankle. We hope it will be just a couple of days."
Gomez has already been on the disabled list twice this year, once for a strained right hamstring and again for a cyst in his right shoulder.
