Chirinos' wrist sore after awkward tag

Rangers' catcher had glove hand bent back on play at plate

OAKLAND -- Catcher is dealing with a sore left wrist after a hard tag on in the fourth inning of the Rangers' 6-2 loss to the Athletics on Wednesday night.
Chirinos stayed in the game and was wearing a thick icepack on the wrist afterward. He was examined by A's team doctor Jon Dickinson but was not sent for X-rays.
"The doctor said tomorrow, if it is bothering me, we'll get it X-rayed," Chirinos said. "If it was broken, I don't think I would have stayed in the game."
The Athletics had the bases loaded with nobody out when hit a grounder right at first baseman Joey Gallo. Gallo went for the out at the plate and the throw was high and to the third-base side of the plate. Chirinos caught the ball off the plate so he had to make a tag. He did so, but the ball jarred loose as Chapman came crashing into Chirinos' glove.
"He hit me, and it bent my wrist back," Chirinos said.
Chirinos is not expected to play on Thursday. He has played three straight games and was due for a day off. will likely be behind the plate for .
