ARLINGTON -- The Rangers are going to give third baseman Adrian Beltre a couple of days to see how he responds to treatment before deciding if he should go on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring.
Beltre was not in the lineup on Tuesday after undergoing an MRI, and Texas is off on Wednesday. They open a four-game series with the Angels on Thursday.
"Essentially, he reaggravated it," Rangers manager Jeff Banister said. "He is not in the lineup today, we're off tomorrow, we'll re-evaluate it Thursday. I don't get any indication that it's going to be long-term, but we still reserve the right to let it settle down for a couple of days and see where it is at."
Beltre injured the leg trying to score from second base on a single by Robinson Chirinos in the eighth inning of Monday's game. He has been on the disabled list twice this year with a strained left hamstring from April 25-May 8, and May 14-31.
Beltre, 39, is a free agent after this season. Both Beltre and the Rangers have expressed hope that he will return next season. This will be the second consecutive season that his playing time has been limited by injury.
"It doesn't matter if you are 28 or 38, hamstrings are such that once you've done it once, they can be recurring," Banister said. "It seems like he has managed it well to this point, he was feeling good last night. He got a good read [on Chirinos' single], came around third base and felt it. No rhyme or reason."
Kiner-Falefa stays at catcher
Isiah Kiner-Falefa has 35 starts at third base this season, most of them coming when Beltre was unavailable. But he was at catcher on Tuesday, and Jurickson Profar was at third base with Beltre out of the lineup.
Kiner-Falefa and Profar are candidates to be the Rangers' third baseman next season if Beltre doesn't return. Right now, Texas is going to keep looking at Kiner-Falefa as a catcher.

He has shared the time with Chirinos, and Texas has a $2.375 million option on him for next year. The Rangers like the progress that Kiner-Falefa has made, but his limited experience and playing time behind the plate as a converted infielder makes it unlikely that he would be ready for a full-time role next season.
"He'll probably finish with around 40 games [caught] this season," Banister said. "Where does that take us next year, and what's the value of a guy who catches and can play other spots? It depends on the structure of the roster."
Kiner-Falefa was drafted by Texas as an infielder in 2013 and began catching in 2016. But he still does both.
"I think that is so valuable," Kiner-Falefa said. "That has made me the player I am … the versatility of playing different positions."
Rangers receive PTBN
Texas has acquired outfielder Alexander Ovalles from the Cubs as the player to be named in their trade of pitcher Cole Hamels.
The Rangers earlier acquired right-handed pitchers Eddie Butler and Rollie Lacy in the deal that was announced July 27.
Orvalles, 17, is a left-handed hitter who hit .316 with no home runs, eight RBIs, 16 walks and 14 strikeouts over 21 games with the Cubs in the Dominican Summer League. He missed time to have surgery for a broken hamate bone in his left hand. Chicago signed him as an international free agent on July 27, 2017.
Colon to be honored Saturday
The Rangers will honor Bartolo Colon before Saturday's game with the Angels. Colon won his 246th game on Aug. 7 against the Mariners, passing Dennis Martinez for the most wins ever by a pitcher from Latin America. Martinez will be a part of the ceremony.

Texas will also hold an equipment drive on Saturday. Fans may drop off new and gently used baseball and softball equipment at Globe Life Park from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. CT, and receive a ticket to a future Rangers game.
All equipment received will be donated to the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at the Mercy Street Sports Complex.

• Double-A Frisco trainer Jacob Newburn was named the Texas League Trainer of the Year by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society. He is in his 13th year with the organization and third with Frisco.
• Colon has walked two or fewer batters in 31 consecutive starts going back to last year, the longest such active streak in the Major Leagues.
• Chirinos has 16 home runs this season, one shy of his career high set in 2016. Ivan Rodriguez and Rod Barajas are the only Rangers catchers to hit more than 17 home runs in a season. Barajas had 21 in 2015. Rodriguez hit more than 17 home runs with Texas seven different times.
