Arlington, Texas — Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien has been selected as the winner of the 2025 Rawlings Gold Glove Award at the second base position in the American League. The announcement was made by Rawlings tonight in a televised show on ESPN. The Rawlings Gold Gloves are presented for defensive excellence each year.
This is the first time for Texas to have a Gold Glove winner since 2023 when the club had three: catcher Jonah Heim, first baseman Nathaniel Lowe, rightfielder Adolis García. With the addition of Semien in 2025, the Rangers have now had 18 different players win a Gold Glove Award in team history.
Voting was conducted before the end of the regular season and finalists were announced on October 15. Four other Texas finalists were not selected as winners: right-handed pitcher Jacob deGrom, shortstop Corey Seager, leftfielder Wyatt Langford, rightfielder Adolis García.
Semien, who turned 35 on September 17, posted a career-high .996 fielding percentage (2 errors in 493 total chances) – the highest mark among qualified A.L. second basemen. He also paced A.L. 2B with 5 defensive runs saved, according to FanGraphs, while ranking 3rd with 7 outs above average, per Statcast. Semien started 127 of Texas’ first 129 games through August 21 at second base before suffering a left foot contusion that caused him to miss the club’s final 33 games of the campaign.
This marks the second career Gold Glove Award for Semien, who claimed his first honor in 2021 with Toronto. Semien also becomes the first-ever Texas player to win the award at second base, which was the lone infield position at which the Rangers had yet to have a winner in club history. Over the last five seasons (beg. 2021), Semien and Andrés Giménez – who won thrice with Cleveland from 2022-24 – are the only two A.L. second basemen to win the award.
This year’s Gold Glove Award winners will be honored in a ceremony in New York City this Friday, November 7.
