November 24th, 2025

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has acquired outfielder Brandon Nimmo and cash considerations from the New York Mets in exchange for second baseman Marcus Semien.

Nimmo, 32, batted .262/.324/.436/.760 (154-587) in 2025 with the Mets, setting career highs in home runs (25), RBI (92), and games played (155), and ranking 3rd on the club in hits, RBI, and doubles (27). The outfielder made defensive starts in leftfield (146) and centerfield (1) last season, as he registered a career-high 5 outfield assists. Nimmo’s .996 fielding percentage (one error in 264 total chances) was the 7th-best mark among qualified National League outfielders in 2025.

The 10-year MLB veteran carries a career .262/.364/.438/.802 slash line with 135 home runs and 463 RBI over 1066 games spent exclusively with New York-NL. Since 2022, Nimmo has accrued 14.1 wins above replacement (baseball-reference) – the 18th-highest total among N.L. position players in that span – and has appeared in at least 151 games in each of those four seasons – one of just nine players in MLB to accomplish the feat. Since 2020, the left-handed-hitting Nimmo ranks among qualified N.L. batters in triples (6th, 22), times hit by pitch (7th, 57), singles (9th, 487), times on base (10th, 1166), and on-base percentage (12th, .356).

A native of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Nimmo has spent each of his 15 professional seasons in the Mets organization after he was selected by New York-NL with the 13th overall pick in the 2011 MLB Draft. He ranks among Mets franchise leaders (min. 3000 PA) in on-base percentage (6th) and OPS (8th), while his 32 career triples and 524 career walks are each 5th-most in franchise history. Nimmo would become the 3rd player born in Wyoming to appear for the Rangers, joining Mike Devereaux (1997) and Jan Dukes (1972).

The 35-year-old Semien batted .249/.317/.420/.737 with 93 home runs and 319 RBI over 609 games spanning four seasons with the Rangers from 2022-25. He ranked among A.L. leaders during his Texas tenure in at bats (2nd, 2447), runs (4th, 386), games played (5th, 609), and total bases (6th, 1027). Semien was an American League All-Star in both 2023 and 2024, a Silver Slugger Award winner in 2023, and a Gold Glove Award winner in 2025. He batted .230 with 15 home runs and 62 RBI last season, when his year ended early after fouling a ball off his left foot on August 21 at Kansas City.

Semien owns the 3rd-longest consecutive games played streak in Rangers history, appearing in 349 straight contests for Texas from May 13, 2022 to May 28, 2024, and set a MLB record with 179 games started overall spanning the regular season and postseason in the club's World Series championship run in 2023. He hit 19 leadoff home runs with Texas, the 3rd-highest total in franchise history to only Ian Kinsler (29) and Shin-Soo Choo (25). For his career, the 13-year Major League veteran owns a .253 batting average with 253 home runs and 801 RBI over 1629 games.

Following today’s transaction, the Rangers have 34 players on the club’s Major League roster.
