Rangers assign RHP Jimmy Herget outright to Triple-A Round Rock

Herget and INF Justin Foscue both receive non-roster invitations to Rangers Major League Spring Training camp

February 20th, 2021

Surprise, Ariz. — The Texas Rangers today announced that right-handed pitcher Jimmy Herget has been assigned outright to Triple-A Round Rock.

Additionally, Herget and infielder Justin Foscue have received non-roster invitations to Major League Spring Training.

Herget was designated for assignment on Tuesday when the Rangers acquired right-handed pitcher Josh Sborz in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He had a 3.20 ERA over 20 games/one start with the Rangers in 2020 after he was originally acquired from Cincinnati in a waiver claim on December 2, 2019. Herget was re-signed by Texas on December 11, 2020 after he was not tendered a contract offer prior to the deadline on December 2, 2020.

Foscue, who turns 22 on March 2, was the Rangers’ first round selection in the 2020 June draft out of Mississippi State University. He has yet to make his professional debut, as he spent the latter part of last year’s abbreviated season at the club’s Alternate Training Site and also participated in the Rangers’ fall instructional league program.

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers now have 73 players on the club’s Spring Training roster: a full 40-man roster along with 33 non-roster invitees.
