Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers tonight announced that the club has signed catcher Danny Jansen to a two-year Major League contract covering the 2026-27 seasons with a mutual option for 2028. Additionally, the Rangers signed left-handed pitcher Tyler Alexander to a one-year Major League contract for 2026.
The 30-year-old Jansen split the 2025 campaign between Tampa Bay and Milwaukee, combining to bat .215 with a .721 OPS, 14 home runs, 36 RBI, and 2.8 wins above replacement (Baseball-Reference) in 98 games. His bWAR and games totals last season were each the 2nd-highest of his career (2.9 bWAR in 2022, 107 G in 2019). Jansen accrued 14 blocks above average in 2025, the 2nd-highest total in MLB (Baseball Savant), while his 3.54 catcher ERA was good for 4th-best in MLB among qualified backstops.
Since making his Major League debut in 2018, Jansen has amassed 11.5 wins above replacement, the 9th-most bWAR among primary catchers in that span. His 28 catching blocks above average since the start of 2024 are the most in baseball, ahead of Toronto’s Alejandro Kirk (24). Since 2021, Jansen is one of just seven primary catchers in MLB to log at least four seasons with an OPS+ figure greater than 100 (2021, 2022, 2023, 2025). He sports a .333 (13-39) batting average over 11 career games at Globe Life Field, signifying the highest mark at any ballpark at which he has taken at least 40 plate appearances.
Jansen was originally selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 16th round of the 2013 MLB Draft from Appleton West (Wisc.) High School. The eight-year Major League veteran, who is one of six players in MLB to appear in at least 29 games at catcher in every season since 2018, has compiled a career slash line of .220/.311/.415/.726 with 88 home runs and 256 RBI in 599 games with Toronto (2018-24), Boston (2024), Tampa Bay (2025), and Milwaukee (2025).
Alexander, 31, split the 2025 season with Milwaukee and Chicago-AL, going 5-14 with one save, a 4.98 ERA (54 ER/97.2 IP) and 82 strikeouts over a career-high 52 appearances, including 5 starts. The seven-year MLB veteran posted a career-best 3.64 FIP and 0.83 home runs-per-9.0 innings ratio (9 HR/97.2 IP) last season while recording his first career save on April 20 with Milwaukee vs. the Athletics. After being signed by the White Sox on June 8, Alexander turned in a 4.26 ERA (29 ER/61.1 IP) across 31 games/one start while leading the Chicago-AL bullpen in innings pitched through the remainder of the regular season.
The left-hander registered 19 relief appearances of 2.0-or-more innings in 2025, tied for the 2nd-most such outings in MLB behind only Chicago-AL’s Mike Vasil (25). Alexander covered 1.1-or-more innings 25 times as a reliever last year, 6th most in the Majors.
Alexander, who prepped at Southlake Carroll High School and Texas Christian University before being selected in the 2nd round of the 2015 MLB Draft by Detroit, owns a career 4.63 ERA (281 ER/546.2 IP) and 4.51 FIP in 195 Major League games/57 starts with the Tigers (2019-23), Rays (2024), Brewers (2025), and White Sox (2025). He is one of 12 MLB pitchers since 2019 to make 50-or-more starts and 100-or-more relief appearances in that span. Among southpaws with 500.0-or-more innings since 2019, his career 3.48 strikeout-per-walk ratio (445 SO/128 BB) ranks 11th in the Majors.
With tonight’s transactions, the Rangers have 37 players on the club’s Major League roster.
