Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation gearing up for back to school with upcoming events

Foundation to partner with Comerica Bank for Third Annual Backpack Distribution Event

August 10th, 2020

Arlington, TX – The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation continues to give back to the community with several community initiatives planned for this week. Foundation events include the first of eight scheduled to-go lunch distributions, as well as a Comerica Bank Back to School Backpack Distribution Event.

Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, August 11, the Foundation will serve to-go meals to West Dallas youth at the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at Mercy Street Presented by Toyota.

The lunch distribution events will rotate meals from several Rangers sponsors, including Food for the Soul, 7-11, Chick-Fil-A and Papa Johns. The lunch distribution events will continue on eight different dates (8/11, 8/14, 8/17, 8/21, 8/25, 8/28, 9/1, and 9/4) from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Lunch will be distributed via a drive-thru outside the Globe Life Indoor Training Center to the first 200 kids, while supplies last.

“We know that these have been challenging times for many families due to COVID-19 and its impact on the economy. We just completed our successful Rangers RBI season and while our fall programming does not start until September, we wanted our Academy families to know we are here for them off the field too,” said Texas Rangers Vice President of Community Outreach and Executive Director of the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation Karin Morris.

The week’s initiatives continue with the third annual Comerica Bank Backpack Distribution event this Friday, August 14, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.. In support of back to school season, Comerica Bank and the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation will donate 300 backpacks to West Dallas Youth.

Every backpack will be filled with several beneficial school supplies for primary school and secondary school age youth. Vouchers for the backpacks have already been distributed to Academy participants, as well as youth in the West Dallas area.

“We are honored to partner with the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation on its Back to School event again this year,” said Brian Foley, Comerica Bank Texas Market President. “Serving and supporting our community during this unique time in history is of critical importance to Comerica. We remain committed to providing much-needed resources to underserved families as we strive to raise expectations of what a bank can be in the communities we serve.”

Over the last few months, to ease the impact of COVID-19, the Foundation has provided over 4.5 million meals and snacks to over 140,000 individuals across 16 different locations throughout Dallas-Fort Worth.
