Marcelo Mayer continues to make positive steps towards returning to the Majors.

Mayer, whom the Giants acquired at the Trade Deadline from the Red Sox for reliever Erik Miller, continued his rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, going 1-for-3 with an RBI single, a walk and two strikeouts. The 23-year-old has been on the injured list since June 26 with a bone stress reaction in his left ulna.

Mayer began his rehab assignment with the River Cats on Aug. 13 and is primed to return to the Majors soon and debut with the Giants, potentially during the club’s current road trip through Cleveland and Boston.

Mayer was selected by Boston with the fourth overall pick in the 2021 Draft and was a consensus top prospect during his time in the Minors. He owns a career .624 OPS with seven home runs in 114 MLB games.
