The Dodgers' rotation is getting another reinforcement.
Los Angeles activated right-hander Tyler Glasnow from the 60-day injured list on Tuesday ahead of its series opener against the Braves in Atlanta. Glasnow has not pitched for the Dodgers since May 6, when lower back spasms limited him to just one inning. In a corresponding move, the club optioned right-handed pitcher Paul Gervase.
Glasnow posted a 2.72 ERA in seven starts before going on the IL. While the back issue was initially expected to be minor, Glasnow had trouble ramping up early on, but he has made linear progress since early July, culminating in a Minor League rehab assignment. He checked his final box on Wednesday, stretching out to 5 1/3 innings on 77 pitches with Triple-A Oklahoma City.
With Glasnow back, the Dodgers' rotation will be just about at full strength. He'll join Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tarik Skubal, Blake Snell and Roki Sasaki. Shohei Ohtani might not be far behind, as he should face hitters one more time before returning to pitching, although he'll have to build up an inning at a time at the big league level.
Glasnow is not expected to have a pitch limit in his return, manager Dave Roberts said on Saturday. With just more than a month remaining until the postseason, the Dodgers want to see him knock off any rust he might have and be at his best once October comes around.
