Hader, Hendriks earn Reliever of Month Award

July 3rd, 2019

Brewers left-hander and A's right-hander have been named the National League and American League Relievers of the Month presented by The Hartford for the month of June.

It was business as usual for the 25-year-old Hader, who also won the NL Reliever of the Month Award for May. In June, the southpaw allowed just one run on two hits in 13 1/3 innings and struck out 25 of the 44 batters he faced.

Hader has notched a strikeout 52.4 percent of the time this year. Just two pitchers in Major League history -- (52.5 percent in 2014) and (50.2 percent in '12) -- have thrown at least 50 innings in a season and finished with a strikeout rate of 50 percent or better.

As for Hendriks, June's success continued what has been a career year for the 30-year-old. The veteran righty finished the month with a 0.60 ERA, 22 strikeouts and four walks in 15 innings. He appeared in 14 of the A's 28 games in June and took over closing duties when went on the injured list on June 23. In 46 2/3 innings this season, Hendriks owns personal bests in ERA (1.35), WHIP (1.07) and strikeout rate (31.2 percent).
